Keep Praying For Your Family
Keep Praying For Your Family | August 14th
Let's begin by saying that no one has a perfect home or can sit down to write the ideal manual on parenting or family relationships. However, we all care about our family deeply. That is why one of the wisest uses of our experience (good or bad) and time is to pray for our family, specifically those who need Christ! Perhaps it's a child who does not believe or a spouse or parent who opposes your obedience to God. These examples and others like them can be discouraging and draining at the same time. Regardless, do not let these unsettling feelings stop you from offering a prayer request for those you love.
When we prioritize praying for the salvation of family members, we reflect God's heart. Second Peter 3:9 says, "The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance."
Notice that the place of refuge is repentance. Therefore, we need to be specific about praying for our family as it pertains to becoming a Christian. Repentance means we agree with God about our sinfulness and needing Christ for salvation. Furthermore, genuine repentance communicates to God that we acknowledge that our path is wrong and that getting on God's path is what is needed. Thus, when we pray for our kids or relatives, we should first pray for the Spirit to bring conviction of these needs associated with repentance. Only the Holy Spirit can remove the veil and ignorance that is present.
Secondly, let us pray for them to come into agreement with God. Finally, let us pray they will respond with humility and meekness when God reveals Himself to them.
Understanding how important your family is to you, please know of my prayers for your loved ones to reach repentance. May there be a harvest of family members that come to Christ! Feel free to email me the names of people you are praying for, and together we will keep these requests before the Lord.
