Guard Your Mind
Guard Your Mind | August 2nd
Proactively protecting your valuables extends far beyond a lock and key these days. You will likely create dozens of accounts in your personal and professional life. Each of these accounts requires passwords and sometimes multiple forms of authentication. Creating secure passwords and remembering them all can be challenging and annoying! Nevertheless, these defensive measures are necessary in a world where scams and cyber crimes are increasing daily, so security makes sense.
Wouldn't it be great if we could set up a password for our minds? We are bombarded with adverse thoughts throughout the day, every day! Some of these mind games include feelings of insecurity, "I am not good enough." Or "I am never going to make it." Other examples may be associated with fear, which produces a cowardly or defeated mentality. Sometimes, it's unrelenting temptations, and other times, it's loneliness. As a result, our thinking gets tangled up in unhealthy thoughts, and we begin to tank emotionally and mentally.
Thus, as with those online accounts, we must guard our minds with protective actions. Nobody's negativity should have instant and immediate access to our minds. Nor should we allow ourselves to be wreckless and dwell on discouragement when things don't go our way. How do we do that? We do it by using Scriptural passwords (Colossians 3:2 and Philippians 4:8):
First, we must get our minds out of the gutter and onto God's kingdom plans. Colossians 3:2 says, "Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth." For example, if I focus on lustful or selfish thinking, my mind will be vulnerable to attack. It's the equivalent of having the word "password" be your password for your online banking, which some people do! Your enemy, the devil, will easily break into your day with harmful thoughts.
Secondly, we must change our focus, and our attitude will follow. Philippians 4:8 says, "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." We must be purposeful in making healthy choices regarding our thinking, or negativity will rob us of whatever joy or purpose we have!
If you set a password to protect yourself from ungodly thinking and choose to focus on godly principles, you will be in a position to receive God's peace and purpose for your life!
