Talk To God When Troubles Come

Talk To God When Troubles Come | April 19, 2024

Wouldn't it be helpful if you could receive advance notice of any upcoming trouble before it arrives? An alert or notification on the phone, an old-fashioned telegram, or smoke signals would work; anything would be better than ambushed by adversity! However, it is only sometimes possible to have prior knowledge about potential issues or problems. This luxury is not available in most cases. What is available to you is the ability to talk to God when troubles come.

Psalm 50:15 powerfully reminds us of God's promise:"Call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me." This verse is not just a statement but a testament to God's unwavering love and care for His children.

When you talk to God about troublesome circumstances, be specific—ask Him to remove the distraction and discouragement the issue is causing. For example, in Psalm 25:17, David prayed, "Relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish."

Let's face it: troubles will produce an avalanche of anguish! Asking God to alleviate that tension is a wise prayer. Anguish has a purpose in our emotions, such as in the grief process or in dealing with disappointment, but that feeling is not supposed to become a permanent resident in our minds. Another way to consider this is to think of anguish as a disc out of alignment and leaning against a nerve, causing discomfort. The suffering needs to be alleviated if you are going to move forward.

Likewise, if you are going to persevere through your season of trouble, you need to ask God to help you release the anguish. Remember, you have promises to lean on and claim. Psalm 9:9 says, "The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble."

With this in mind, stop stuffing your struggles; talk to God about your troubles. He is faithful in providing consolation and will give you the necessary wisdom to fight through your problems.
