What To Do In Times Of Trouble
What To Do In Times Of Trouble | June 24, 2024
It's a fact of life that troubles often arrive unannounced without a hint of their impending arrival. It would be convenient if we were given a heads-up and a chance to prepare, but that's different from how most troubles operate. They come in various forms at different stages of life. Therefore, adopting a prepared mindset and having a game plan ready when troubles make their untimely visit is wise. This is half the battle; without a plan, we risk making hasty decisions to cope with the challenge.
The most productive step in times of trouble is to seek God. For example, David did this when troubles were pressing in on him. Psalm 20 says, "In times of trouble, may the Lord answer your cry. May the name of the God of Jacob keep you safe from all harm. 2 May he send you help from his sanctuary and strengthen you from Jerusalem. 3 May he remember all your gifts and look favorably on your burnt offerings. 4 May he grant your heart's desires and make all your plans succeed. 5 May we shout for joy when we hear of your victory and raise a victory banner in the name of our God. May the Lord answer all your prayers. 6 Now I know that the Lord rescues his anointed king. He will answer him from his holy heaven and rescue him by his great power. 7 Some nations boast of their chariots and horses, but we boast in the name of the Lord our God. 8 Those nations will fall down and collapse, but we will rise and stand firm. 9 Give victory to our king, O Lord! Answer our cry for help."
Take notice of verse 7. Here, David expresses that his trust is not in his ability to overcome the trouble, which was a military-type threat, but in the Lord. If the Psalm was written today, David might have said, "Some trust in drone strikes, nuclear weapons, and tanks, but our trust is in the Lord our God."
Your reaction is critical to overcoming trouble. In challenging times, a response that trusts in God rather than yourself brings victory. If you trust the Lord, you can expect Him to protect and give you peace.
Jesus declared in John 16:33, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
