Leap Forward In Your Faith
Leap Forward In Your Faith | February 29, 2024
Have you noticed that the years 2020, 2024, 2028, 2032, 2036, 2040, 2044, and 2048 have a few significant factors in common? For example, these years contain the Presidential elections, the Summer Olympics, and the Leap Year. You might ask, "What is Leap Year?" Well, Leap Year is when February gets a whole extra day, making it 29 days on the calendar instead of 28. As we know, a typical year has 365 days, referred to as a "common year." The phrase "common year" represents the days the Earth takes to complete one full orbit around the sun. However, the exact number is 365.242190, or another way to look at it: 365 days plus 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 56 seconds.
There are two primary ways to help account for this "additional time." First, an extra day was added to our calendar. If we didn't have the extra day / Leap Year, eventually, our seasons would bleed into other months. For example, after approximately 700 years, our summers would begin in December. Our northern hemisphere's perspective of the seasons would be off, to say the least! Even in this process, an extra 44 minutes accumulate over the years, and it must be placed, which leads us to our second factor. Leap Year is skipped on specific years to accommodate the extra 44 minutes. For example, Leap Year was skipped in 1700, 1800, 1900, and 2000 and will be bypassed again in 2100.
I know the understanding of Leap Year may be confusing, but what is clear to me is that God desires that we take leaps of faith in our spiritual growth. Second Corinthians 5:7 says, "For we walk by faith, not by sight." And Philippians 3:13-14, "Brothers and sisters, I do not consider that I have made it my own yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the [heavenly] prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."
These verses tell us that when we live a life of faith, leave the past and its mistakes behind, and press on toward God's purposes in our Savior, we can potentially leap forward in our growth.
Knowing this, seek God in faith and leave the results to Him!
