Dealing With Unjust Criticism

Dealing With Unjust Criticism | August 3rd

At a certain point in life, you will face unjust criticism because opinions are like armpits; everyone has them! This saying means people will chuck their unfair treatment at you like a spear. David from the Old Testament can relate. King Saul was so jealous of his success that he literally tried to pin him to a wall with a spear!

First Samuel 18:6-12, "When the men were returning home after David had killed the Philistine, the women came out from all the towns of Israel to meet King Saul with singing and dancing, with joyful songs and with timbrels and lyres. 7 As they danced, they sang: 'Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands.' 8 Saul was very angry; this refrain displeased him greatly. 'They have credited David with tens of thousands,' he thought, 'but me with only thousands. What more can he get but the kingdom?' 9 And from that time on Saul kept a close eye on David. 10 The next day an evil spirit from God came forcefully on Saul. He was prophesying in his house, while David was playing the lyre, as he usually did. Saul had a spear in his hand 11 and he hurled it, saying to himself, 'I'll pin David to the wall.' But David eluded him twice. 12 Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with David but had departed from Saul."

People with a critical and jealous spirit will go to great lengths to get their way, even if it means throwing some spears around!

There may be spears coming at you right now in the form of slander, false statements, passive-aggressive words, profanity, sarcasm, and gossip. However, if you learn from David and wait for God to vindicate you, He will give you the wisdom to take the necessary steps to move forward and experience His blessing.

Sure, those spears of insults and immature fussing by your critics are frustrating, but remember, you live to the audience of one, God Almighty. In due time, God will reveal their disingenuousness and raise you up. It may be why David wrote, "Hope in the LORD and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are destroyed, you will see it" (Psalm 37:34.)
