Angels Are In Your Corner
Angels Are In Your Corner | July 13th
When a round in a boxing match begins or ends, a familiar sound is the ringing of a bell. After each round, the fighters can return to their corner to receive assistance from the staff and rest briefly. The crew (trainer, cut man, corner man) in the boxer's corner plays a crucial role, offering support and guidance to the fighters. According to boxing regulatory guidelines, "the fighter's corner is a one-minute sanctuary between the physical battles of each round."
Sometimes, life can feel like a boxing match, and you're in a 12-round battle. Knowing you have divine help in your corner may be the difference between winning and losing the next round. Like the boxer, remember you are not alone. In your corner, God has placed angels to help you so you can keep fighting!
In Psalm 34:7, David declares, "The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them."
David had his share of boxing-like matches concerning adversity. Whether it was dealing with King Saul's jealousy, enemies on the battlefield like Goliath, or, later on, internal drama with his family, David sought the Lord. One of the ways God provides help to His people is by strategically placing angels in their corner, or in some cases, He shows up Himself! The phrase "angel of the Lord," particularly in the Old Testament, was a tangible appearance of Yahweh himself. We don't know specifically if David meant that this angelic presence was God himself or an angel present to be with him, but keep in mind, both can be true!
Notice also that the "fear of him" or reverence for the Lord is tied to the angel's visitation. We can't expect God's team of angels to be in our corner if we do not regard the Lord with the respect and honor He is due.
When we realize that God is sending angels to work for us, we should be motivated to live for His glory and keep fighting because we have divine help in our corner!
