Healthy Fear Leads To Blessing

Healthy Fear Leads To Blessing | July 19, 2024

At times, fear can seem like an impossible mountain to climb. Fear can take various forms, such as the fear of going to the dentist, the fear of flying, or the fear of rejection. These fears are considered unhealthy and counterproductive.

However, fear can also serve healthy purposes. For example, the fear of your identity being stolen online leads you to use a password and perhaps an extra level of authentication, especially when dealing with money. And the fear of having your car broken into overnight leads you to double-check that your doors are locked before bed. The fear of drowning in deep waters may cause you to wear a life jacket or be extra cautious. Growing up, we had a measure of fear for our parents or authority figures concerning doing what is right. All of these healthy fears prove to be beneficial. I believe this is the type of fear Scripture speaks of when instructed to "fear the Lord" or study the "fear of God."

Psalm 34:9 says, "Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing."
Consider the type of fear David describes in this Psalm as reverence or a high level of respect. When we believe and behave with reverent fear, we honor God and remain faithful.

Also, when we have this healthy fear for the Lord, His provisions follow and flow freely, and we will "lack nothing." It's as if God says, "Trust me to direct and guide your life, and you will have everything you need."

We can all attest to times when we didn't listen to this counsel of fearing God and instead followed our flesh into bad decisions that left us lacking what we needed emotionally, perhaps financially, and even spiritually. Therefore, consider the fear of the Lord as something that is both necessary and healthy for you. He provides wisdom and guidance to those who revere Him. Proverbs 9:10 states, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." According to Psalm 34:9, Proverbs 9:10, and other verses, healthy fear leads to blessing.

Knowing this, seek to be humble, revere God's Word, apply what He says to your everyday life, and remember you will lack nothing of what you need!
