Chase Whatever God Approves
Chase Whatever God Approves | July 22nd
One of the most powerful personal rules that will serve you well is the commitment to only chase what God approves. This rule means that daily decisions you make internally and externally should align with God's guidance in the Scriptures. Where the Bible may be vague on a subject, use what you know about God's character and other verses to form an honoring perspective. You can also enlist the help of those you may already lean on for godly wisdom.
Scripture repeatedly instructs us to put our focus in the right places. For example, Psalm 34:14 says, "Turn from evil and do good. Seek peace and pursue it." This pursuit of peace is not just a suggestion but a comforting reassurance that God's plan for us is one of tranquility and harmony.
As David experienced, solicitations of evil do not discriminate. Thus, the directive to turn from evil is both practical and applicable today. Remember that turning away from evil involves acknowledging that evil is not the path God wants for you. Some of these evils are easy to spot, but other indecencies may be harder to notice, mainly because our flesh produces sinful urges that we seek to gratify. But even if something feels right, it doesn't make it right. Choosing what is good represents aligning with what God approves, such as peace. Peace facilitates fellowship with God and others and embodies the peace of God. It's impossible to experience the peace that God offers if my attention and commitment are directed toward the wrong things. Likewise, it is a sure bet that drama will follow those who chase whatever displeases God.
To put Psalm 34:14 into practice, start with your thoughts. Turn away from those thoughts contrary to God's will for you and leave the results to Him. Romans 13:14 says, "Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don't let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires."
Let's all go in and chase what God approves!
