Pray Your Way Out Of A Pit

Pray Your Way Out Of A Pit | March 1, 2024

Back in September of 2022, a construction worker in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was thankfully rescued by the local fire department after falling into a 10-foot ditch while on the job. The report says that fire personnel from Ladder 1, Ladder 4, Rescue 4 and 11, Battalion Chiefs 1 and 2, and Safety 1 and 2 assisted with the confined space rescue.
Nobody purposely jumps into a dark, dangerous, potentially life-threatening hole. The unimaginable happens through a series of unforeseen events, and before you know it, you are stuck!

Unfortunately, life can feel that way as well. Without warning, you can feel like you have fallen into an emotional, relational, mental, or spiritual pit. No matter how hard you try, you seem to have little to no progress. Getting the same results is wearing you out, and frustration is starting to turn to apathy. Thus, you feel trapped and wonder if there is any hope.
In your pit experiences, it will be essential to your survival to continue to focus on prayer regardless of whether you feel previous prayers have gone unanswered. See, to escape, you need to "pray yourself out of the pit." Specifically speaking, pray the Scriptures back to God.

For example, Psalm 40:2 says, "He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. "
How about the story of Jonah? He caused his own pit experience, but God was still faithful! Jonah 2:6 says, "To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you, Lord my God, brought my life up from the pit."

These Scriptures are God's rescue apparatus that will lead you to higher ground. While praying these verses, consider the following questions: What has God already said concerning my trials, troubles, and trenches? Is there anything holding me down from getting out of my pit?

These questions will help you evaluate your situation. Perhaps it's a person, a sinful pleasure, or hidden pride. Whatever the reason, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any deadweight so you can climb to safety. Either way, remain hopeful and wait on God. Don't give up before the rescue!
