Bringing God To Your Fight

Bringing God To Your Fight | December 3, 2023

Some older students bullied a 6th grader named Tommy at school. They took his lunch money, his basketball, and his headphones. Going to school became a real struggle for Tommy after that. At dinner one night, Tommy appeared to be very standoffish with his family. As mothers do, Tommy's mom began the interrogation and learned about her son's difficulty at school. Tommy's older brother Timothy overheard what was going on. He questioned his brother and asked, "Why didn't you tell me?" Tommy said he felt embarrassed but wanted him to intervene, so he did. Timothy confronted the bullies, had them apologize, and returned the items they took. Everything changed when Tommy brought his big brother to the fight.

Likewise, your perspective and hope drastically change when you ask God to fight your battles. Theologian F. B. Meyer has said, "Unbelief puts our circumstance between us and God, but faith puts God between us and our circumstances."

Consider these verses and commit them to memory so that the next time your problems try to bully you around, you will be ready:

Psalm 50:15 says, "Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you…"

Psalm 18:6 says, "In my distress, I called upon the LORD, And cried to my God for help; He heard my voice out of His temple, And my cry for help before Him came into His ears."

Isaiah 41:10 says, "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

Psalm 116:2 says, "Because He has inclined His ear to me, Therefore I shall call upon Him as long as I live."

Battles are going to come your way in the form of problems. Make calling on God a daily part of your problem-solving strategy.
