Cure Loneliness With Encouragement
Cure Loneliness With Encouragement | November 3, 2023
A young man was returning home via ship from a military voyage. The last time he traveled back home, everyone who disembarked the boat returned to their welcome party except him because he had no one! Since there were no family or friends, he planned and paid two people to wait for him as his ship entered port. They were instructed to wave and hold a sign saying, "Welcome Back," they did just that, providing the man with an encouraging greeting as he returned. When asked by the couple why he was willing to pay for them to go through the motions of being his welcome party even though they didn't know him, he replied, "You can't put a price tag on encouragement."
If you interpret this story correctly, what the young man is saying is, "I am sick and tired of being lonely!" Thus, the encouraging salutation of the couple served as a temporary cure for the young man's loneliness.
Thankfully, God doesn't need you to pay people to be your welcome wagon. He has lasting and legitimate encouragement to cure your case of loneliness. See, you can have people in your life and a demanding schedule, or you can be in the twilight of your life and experience loneliness. Likewise, it has been said that you can be in a room filled with people yet still be alone. Knowing this, we need to pray like David did, as recorded in Psalm 25:16-17 which says, "Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. 17 Relieve the troubles of my heart and free me from my anguish."
Following this example, prayerfully seek God's graciousness, which can be Him sending people into your life who will support you and be there when you get off the ship. Also, ask Him to calm and relieve your heart of whatever trouble may be weighing you down and causing some unnecessary angst.
May God cover you during those dark and lonely seasons. By His grace, we will make it through!
