Your Kingdom Come, Your Will Be Done
Your Kingdom Come, Your Will Be Done | September 22, 2023
There's an iconic song popularized by, "Old Blue Eyes," Frank Sinatra, that captures the human mind's bent. The title of the Song is "My Way," and the famous lyrics from the first verse say:
"And now, the end is near.
And so I face the final curtain.
My friend, I'll say it clear.
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain.
I've lived a life that's full.
I traveled each and every highway.
And more, much more than this
I did it my way."
While God wants us to take the initiative and be responsible, those noble actions should not substitute for seeking His kingdom plan. See, Jesus taught us to pray and do it God's way, not our way. Matthew 6:10, "Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven."
What does it mean when we pray this way? To answer that question, consider the key phrase, "on earth as it is in heaven." To pray for God's kingdom to come is to ask for his rulership as it is in heaven. Think about it this way: Is there disorder in heaven? No. Is God subjected to someone else on the throne? No. Is God's will done in heaven with instant obedience? Yes.
Thus, to pray for "His kingdom to come" is to ask God to reign in your life the same way he reigns in heaven. You asking God to rule over your attitude and actions. You also asking Him to lead your availability. We can't pray for His kingdom to come, yet give Him no time. Nor can we pray for His kingdom to come yet willfully live in a way contrary to His Word.
Knowing this, let us humbly present our needs to God while seeking His kingdom plan for our situation. Let us also be mindful that God's kingdom plan extends beyond our lives. If appropriately applied, these facts and Matthew 6:10 of the Lord's prayer will give you great hope.
